Days of the Week in Spanish: Los Días de la Semana
All seven days of the week in Spanish, why they're not capitalized like in English, and the calendar detail that surprises most beginners.
The days of the week are simple vocabulary, but they come with one detail that trips up almost every English speaker the first time they write them down.

- lunes: Monday
- martes: Tuesday
- miércoles: Wednesday
- jueves: Thursday
- viernes: Friday
- sábado: Saturday
- domingo: Sunday
Two Things That Are Different From English
They’re not capitalized. Unlike English, Spanish doesn’t capitalize the days of the week (or the months, for that matter) unless they start a sentence. Hoy es lunes (today is Monday), all lowercase.
The week starts on Monday, not Sunday. On a standard Spanish-language calendar, lunes is the first column and domingo is the last. This matches most of the world outside the US, but it’s worth knowing if a date or schedule looks “off” at first glance.
